How to go from Newbie to Student-Ninja as a LinkedIn Creator... spoiler alert, you cannot and should not cheat! A few months ago, I started my journey as The No-Nonsense CTO. Getting from 0 to 4,000 followers was not easy In September last year, my LinkedIn was a quiet place. Low engagement, few impressions, and even fewer followers. It felt like shouting into the void. Why? The answer boiled down to two crucial elements: ๐—”๐˜‚๐˜๐—ต๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐˜๐˜† ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐—ง๐—ฟ๐˜‚๐˜€๐˜. Without these, creating on LinkedIn was a frustrating uphill battle. So, what turned the tide? โ†’ย ย Show Up - Success starts with being present. โ†’ย ย Post Consistently - Your voice becomes familiar; your presence is expected. โ†’ย ย Don't Give Up - The path to recognition is paved with persistence. โ†’ย ย Listen - Your audience is your compass; they guide your content direction. โ†’ย ย Reflect - Every post is a lesson. Learn what resonates. I learned to cut myself some slack. Not every swing hits a home run: โ†’ย ย Not every post will capture the crowd. โ†’ย ย Not every reader will click 'Like'. โ†’ย ย Not every message will resonate universally. โ†’ย ย Patience Pays Off Fast forward six months โ†’ย ย My followers aren't just numbers; they're a growing community. โ†’ย ย Engagement isn't rare; it's routine. โ†’ย ย I've found my rhythm and my voice. And the real measure of success? โ†’ย ย Inbound leads range from 1 to 3 per week. โ†’ย ย New clients aren't just prospects; they're partnerships in progress. Why This Matters to You? As a CTO, I do not advocate experimenting in the live environment! - but here I am doing it on LinkedIn. You see, over the last week I have tried a number of different experiments, but why? Simple, you see, last week I had a post blow up.ย ย Within an hour of posting it had passed 10k impressions, engagement ratio was high and over the course of the next day or so, it achieved over 40k impressions. So I wondered, how come some posts do this and others languish in the high hundreds of impressions. ๐—œ ๐˜€๐—ฒ๐˜ ๐—ฎ๐—ฏ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐˜ ๐˜๐—ผ ๐˜๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜ ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐˜ ๐—ฎ ๐—ณ๐—ฒ๐˜„ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐˜€, ๐—พ๐˜‚๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ธ๐—น๐˜† ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐˜€๐—ฎ๐—ณ๐—ฒ๐—น๐˜†. โ€ข Tagging big accounts into your posts ? โ€ข Mixing up the formats? โ€ข Talking about topics outside of my domain authority? โ€ข Engaging with my content quickly? โ€ข Keeping my content on peoples radar? โ€ข Being active before and after posting? All of the above have been mentioned by many of the LI thought leaders (I am deliberately not mentioning them here) as impactful. ๐—ฆ๐—ผ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ๐˜€๐—ฒ ๐˜„๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐—บ๐˜† ๐—ฝ๐—ผ๐˜€๐˜๐˜€ โ€ข Mon - a comedy post relating to onions โ€ข Tue - a self promo post regarding CTO services โ€ข Wed - a contentious post relating to an article in the guardian โ€ข Thur - a give away post with something that had real value! โ€ข Fri - a leadership post with the CTA at the beginning of the post (please comment) โ€ข Sat - A great carousel, but the post itself was long also (making the reader choose between a+b) โ€ข Sun - This post! ๐—ช๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐—ฑ ๐—œ ๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ป? โ†ณ Format doesn't seem to make a huge difference as long as its one thing or the other! (dont create a carousel and then add a huge post to it!) โ†ณ putting the CTA at the front made a huge difference if you actually want real engagement.ย ย That post had the highest view to comment ratio. โ†ณ Obviously self promoting posts underperform compared to their "give it away for free" posts. โ†ณ Give something away for free only works if it is clear what you are giving away.ย ย Keep it short, to the point. ๐Ÿ”ฅ ๐—•๐˜‚๐˜ ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐—ถ๐˜€ ๐—บ๐˜† ๐—ฏ๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ด๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜ ๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ป๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฒ ๐—œ ๐˜„๐—ถ๐—น๐—น ๐˜๐—ฎ๐—ธ๐—ฒ ๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐˜„๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฑ.๐Ÿ”ฅ โ†ณย ย Be active 15 minutes before the post and an hour after the post has a huge impact on reach. โ†ณย ย Engaging with comments on your own and others posts has the biggest impact, create conversations โ†ณย ย Creating mini posts in comments in your own posts also has a huge positive impact on reach As for tagging big accounts in to your posts? โžก๏ธ This only has any value if the person you are tagging is relevant to your post.ย  PS. if they ghost your post, it is very detrimental!
